Medium 199 described in 1950 for the first time and intended for the culture of chick embryo fibroblasts represents a very complex cell culture medium. It contains unique components such as adenine, adenosine, thymine and hypoxanthine. Recommended for the culture of non-transformed cells. The supplementation with Earles salts requires the incubation in 5-10% CO2 atmosphere.
